Step into Spring: how to be stylish, professional and stay warm
Is your office casual and creative or smart and formal? Either way you need to dress to impress and look like you’ve made the effort. Spring is the best time of year to refresh your wardrobe and get rid of what you no longer wear. Then you can be ready to hit the shops!
My advice, don't go too crazy. We live in the UK, home of unreliable weather. Yes, we can have beautiful warm Spring days but more often than not it can still be very chilly. It's easy for fashionistas to recommend flimsy dresses and sandals but the rest of us have to live our lives and staying warm on our journeys to and from work is important!
My answer is simple: layers. There is no need to buy short-sleeved tops in March. The thought of my arms coming out before they've seen the sun makes me shudder. Instead wear a fresh new shirt. They are fantastic in the office, smart yet easy to wear and a wonderful alternative to the dowdy jersey top which is much too casual for a professional environment. What do I wear with my shirt? I always put a colour vest underneath. Then a blazer for smart days, a leather jacket for a cool casual look and a knitted soft blazer for stylish comfort.
Here are some ideas:
Perfekcija is the only place I buy my shirts from. The cotton is amazing quality, they fit beautifully and wash well. The Livia style is a firm favourite with my clients.
Uterque is part of the Zara group. It's a little more grown up and better quality. Stripes are huge this Spring and a black stripe shirt will look great with trousers, skirts and jeans so will work for you in the office and at weekends. Wear it tucked in to avoid the pyjama look in the office!
Wear a vest under the shirt, this yellow Uniqlo AIRism vest looks fantastic.
Add a blazer, Day Birger et Mikkelsen has this Day Classic blazer, it’s the best not suit jacket of the season.
Alternatively, the Whistles Molly Jersey Jacket is perfect for a smart/casual look.
Finally, add a necklace to finish an outfit perfectly. Try one of these:
The Stella and Dot fringed necklace in gold looks amazing under a shirt.
This Hobbs Nicola necklace is stunning.
Brave Lotus is a new British brand. The Feather in the Wind necklace is a perfect new season piece.
Most of my clients work in an office and I help them pick the perfect clothes for their body shape and personality. I can also help you edit your wardrobe to help you put outfits together more easily in the morning. After all, who doesn't need an extra ten minutes in bed?! You can then stroll into work rested and knowing you look stylish which is an instant confidence booster.
